Pte Leslie Arthur Barratt, who came from New Southgate in North London, served with D Company, 12th (Airborne) Battalion The Devonshire Regiment during World War II.
He took part in the Normandy landings which marked the start of the liberation of France from German occupation.
Pte Barratt was killed in the early stages of the campaign during a hard fought battle, involving hand to hand combat, to eject German forces from the village of Breville.
Pte Barratt died on 12 June 1944, aged 19 years, and is buried in Ranville War Cemetery, in Normandy, France.
