Laurence Vincent Jones was the son of William and Susan Jones and the husband of Murial Jones, of Surrey. He enlisted into the Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Jones successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to D Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Jones was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 28, and was given a field burial beside Klein Amerikaweg, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 31 October 1945.
