Ken Bettany enlisted into the Royal Signals during World War II and later volunteered for airborne forces.
He qualified as a military parachutist on Course 140 which ran at RAF Ringway from 30 October to 14 November 1944. Initially posted to 1st Airborne Division Signals he served in Norway as part of Operation Doomsday.
He was later posted to Palestine with J Section Signals 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and went on to serve 22 years in the Army rising to the rank of Captain.
Ken was the subject of several local media articles in the North Staffs press and also served as President of the North Staffordshire Branch of the PRA .
