Kenneth C Westcroft enlisted with The Army on 5 May 1942. He served with The RIF Bde before volunteering for the airborne forces.
Ken was successfully parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 77. This course ran between 9 and 18 August 1943. His instructor noted:
"Excitable but keen worker". There is a typo in the course notes as Ken's surname is spelt 'Westcott'.
He was then posted to The 7th Parachute Bn, A Coy HQ. He became the Coy bugler. His bugle which he took with him on operation Overlord in June 1944, Ken generously donated, and is on display in The Airborne Assault museum.
Ken took part in operations with The 7th Para Bn in Normandy, Ardennes and The Rhine Crossing. He joined the Reserves 23 March 1947.
