Private Joseph Witherspoon, son of Thomas and Margaret Witherspoon, of Birtley, County Durham, served with 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
He died on 25 September 1944, aged 31 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
