Regimental Sergeant Major Joseph Neal served as the first RSM of 12th/ 13th Bn. (Yorkshire and Lancashire) The Parachute Regiment (T.A.).
RSM Neal had also served with the Parachute Course Administrative Unit (PCAU) at RAF Abingdon and The Para Depot at Maida Barracks, where he captained the Depot Shooting team before becoming RSM of 13 PARA (TA) in February 1953.
He was tragically electrocuted at the Battalion’s camp at Buckenham Tofts Camp, Stanford. RSM Neal died on 9 August 1957 aged 41. RSM Neal is buried at the Borough Cemetery, Irvine, Scotland.
