Johnny Kieser was one of the founding members of South Africa's first airborne unit, the 1st Parachute Battalion.
He qualified as a parachutist at RAF Abingdon in November 1960 along with the other founding members of the Battalion and received training from the British Parachute Regiment.
He rose to become a WO1 and has the most jumps under canopy of any person in the South African military having completed over 4,300 jumps, with over 28 hours freefall time to his name. He still jumps at the age of 71!
