John Wright, the son of Joseph and Mary C. Wright, of Townhead, Glasgow, enlisted into the Royal Artillery on 15 November 1939.
He volunteered for airborne forces and served with The Glider Pilot Regiment.
Staff Sergeant Wright went to Arnhem with G Squadron and aged 25 years was killed at 11:00 on 19 September 1944 when hit in the face and leg by shrapnel. He was last seen about 50 yards of the Old Church Oosterbeek.
S/Sgt Wright has no known grave but is commemorated on Panel 8 of the Groesbeek Memorial at the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery.
