John William Prime was the son of Fred and Mary (Elks) Prime, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, he enlisted in the Royal Armoured Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Trooper Prime successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 109 from 27 March to 7 April 1944. His course report stated “Quiet and cheerful, good performer”. He was posted to 6th (Airborne) Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Trp Prime was killed in action on 4 April 1945, age 23, and was buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 4 April 1945.
