John Stevenson Miller was the son of David and Mary Miller, of Ayr; and husband of Elizabeth Miller, also of Ayr.
He was enlisted into The Royal Artillery and later volunteered for airborne forces during World War II, qualifying as a military parachutist on Course 128, which ran at RAF Ringway from 7 to 20 August 1944.
He was posted to C Company, 8th Parachute Battalion, as a reinforcement, fought in the Ardennes and was subsequently killed on the first day of Operation Varsity, the Rhine Crossing.
Pte John Miller died on 24 March 1945, aged 30 years and is now buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery Germany.
