John Stephen Christopher was the son of Percy and Louise Christopher; husband of Evelyn Rose Christopher, of New Whittington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, he enlisted in The King’s Shropshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Christopher successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 136 from 1 to 17 October 1944. He was posted to C Company, 7 Platoon, 7th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and fought in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Cpl Christopher was killed in action on 27 March 1945, aged 24, and was given a field burial at Raesfield, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 30 April 1947.
