Driver John Stanley Butten, son of William and Edith Butten and husband of Pearl Butten of Thatcham, Berkshire. Enlisted into Royal Army Service Corps before volunteering for airborne forces.
He served with 250 (Airborne) Light Composite Company RASC and went by glider on Operation Market Garden to Arnhem during the second waved on 18 September 1944.
Driver Butten is officially listed as being killed, aged 30 years old, between 18-25 September but it is believed that he died on 19 September near Dreyenseweg.
He has no known grave and is now commemorated on Panel 9 of the Groesbeek Memorial.
