Private John Park

John Park, foster-son of Charles and Mary Smith, of Reading, Berkshire enlisted on 1940, and later volunteered for The Parachute Regiment.

Private Park attended Parachute Training Course No 93 at RAF Ringway between 29 November and 13 December 1943. Despite a nervous start, he was posted to the 2nd (Airborne) Battalion Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy on 5-6 June 1944.

Pte Park died on 7 June 1944, aged 21 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
