John Morris was the son of Orlando and Margaret Morris, of Askern, Yorkshire. He enlisted into The West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales’ Own) and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Morris successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to D Company, 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Morris was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 31, and was given a field burial in an isolated group of graves near the Bilderberg sports ground, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
