Sapper John Joseph Evans, son of Joseph and Lily Evans, of Holmes, Rotherham, Yorkshire, volunteered for The Parachute Regiment and attended parachute training course number 88 at RAF Ringway between 18 and 30 August 1943. His course report stated: 'very satisfactory, good performance, recommended'.
Sapper Evans served with 591 (Antrim) Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers. He took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy, during Op Overlord.
Sapper Evans died on 6 June 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
