Private John Gregg

John Gregg, son of Thomas and Margaret Gregg, and the husband of Doreen May Gregg, of Wilton, Birmingham, enlisted into the General Service Corps before volunteering for airborne forces.

He successfully completed his parachute training on 23 June 1945 and it was noted that he “jumps quite well”.

Private Gregg was posted to the Reserve Battalion before being transferred to 8th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment where he served in Palestine.

Pte Gregg was killed during a parachute drop which is mentioned in Sgt Ron Ward's (716 Coy, RASC) account.

John Gregg died aged 27 years old on 9 May 1946 and is now buried at Khartoum War Cemetery, Sudan.
