John George Leonard Fletcher, son of John and Betty Fletcher, of Bradwell, Derbyshire, enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Fletcher successfully completed his glider training and was posted to C Company, 7 Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Fletcher died of wounds on 22 September 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial in the grounds of the St Elisabeth Hospital at Arnhem and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 30 October 1945.
