Private John F M Swan

John Farrell Middleton Swan was the son of Bernard and Jane Middleton Swan, of Lochee, Dundee, he enlisted on 27 March 1942, and served with The Lowland Regiment, before he volunteered for the airborne forces.

Private Swan successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 82, from 13 to 23 September 1943. His course report stated “Quiet but confident, intelligent jumper”. He was posted to A Company, 7th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Swan died of wounds on 18 June 1944, aged 24, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.

I was hoping to find a picture of my late uncle for my mother - his sister, who is now 92 years old. She has no photos of her brother who was killed when she was 18 years old. As far as she remembers he was killed parachuting in to Normandy .
