John Jones joined Royal Tank Corp 1938. In 1942 he joined the British Airborne Light Tank Sqn. Then he became a member of The 22nd Ind Para Coy.
John was parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 91. This Course ran from 11 to 26 November 1943. The Course notes state that John was posted to PT Coy at Hardwick Hall after successfully completing this Course. His instructor noted this about John's performance:
"Good course; reliable keen, fast in sticks"
John joined the reserves on 31 August 1946. Between 1949 and 1961 he was a member of TA Airborne Artillery Regiment 573 Sq
John left the Army in 1961 and went to work as a Highways Engineer. He lived in Southend with his 2nd wife, Rita, and later in life they moved to Northwold, Norfolk where they saw out their retirement years. John died, a relatively young man, at the age of 74.
