John David Parsons joined Airborne Forces with the Territorial Army. He joined 289 Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery in October 1964.
During his service, Gnr Parsons completed 25 parachute jumps for qualification and subsequent training exercises. In November 1965, the Regiment took part in a NATO exercise to Turkey, stationed at Diyarbakir airbase. It one of the first operations by a British reserve unit since the Second World War.
He remained with the unit after it was redesignated 289 Parachute Battery in 1967, and left in October 1969.
After leaving the Territorials, he subsequently emigrated to Australia, where he still lives today.
