Private John B Jowett

John Baird Jowett was the son of Fred and Catherine Jowett, of East York, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he enlisted in the Irish Regiment of Canada in September 1941 (Reserve Formation) and applied to join 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps on 31 March 1942. He was 5’ 6 ½ “, 127 pounds, Brown Hair, Grey Eyes, with 20/20 vision.

Private Jowett successfully completed parachute training at Fort Benning, joined 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, Sailed to England and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings).

Pte Jowett was killed in action on 11 June 1944, aged 19, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
