John AK Grebby 'Digger' of Perth W.Australia was born from British/Australian parents. His father died working on the Burma/Thailand railway as a POW in 1943.
He was a L/Cpl in 2 PARA September 1955 to July 1959. RAF Abingdon parachute jump records show that John was injured on Course 420, but eventually passed on Course 421 in 1956, with rank of Private.
He was then commissioned into 1 PARA until July 1962, on a Short Service Commission (SSC). John was not recommended to extend his SSC in 1962 and emigrated to Canada in early 1963.
James saw overseas service in Cyprus, November 1956 to February 1957 and again between 15 June and 18 July 1958. He was also airlifted to Jordan 18 July to 26 October 1958. James also served in operations in Iraq too. He took part in mass drop exercises 'Bar Frost' in N.Norway September 1959, 'Holdfast' Germany August 1960 and 'Solinus' in Libya November 1962.
James still lives in Canada with his wife and extended family.
