Sergeant Jim Cahill served with the Welsh Guards. He began his military service during the Second World War, joining the Welsh Guards in 1944. He served until 1945, taking part in the deployments to Norway to assist in the disarmament of the Germany army after VE day.
After being demobbed, he rejoined the services as part of 1st Guards Parachute Battalion in 1947 and served in Palestine until 1948. When the unit was redesignated, he transferred to the new No 1 (Guards) Independent Parachute Company and was deployed to Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR). He was active in the Guards Coy sports teams, captaining the Guards Parachute Company Rugby team for the All Army Rugby Final in 1951.
He rejoined his parent regiment that year and served a further year before leaving the services.
He remains active in the veterans community, as a member of the Guards Parachute Association.
