Private James A Toes

Private James Arthur Toes, son of Arthur and Rose Toes, of Woodlesford Yorkshire, served with L Section, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry. He was subsequently attached to HQ 1st Airborne Division, Defence Platoon and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

Pte Toes was Killed in Action at the Pietersberg Estate on 22 September 1944, aged 28 years old. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Memorial of the Missing at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.

Pte Toes was from the Ox and Bucks but at Arnhem he was attached to Divisional Signals and was with L-Section (1st A/L Bde Signals) Source War Diary 1st Airborne Divisional Signals, so he was not a part of the Division Defence PLatoon. With kind regards.
