Private James Sydney Wheatley was the son of Walter and Mary Jane Wheatley, of Ancaster, Lincolnshire. He enlisted in the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
He successfully completed parachute training in India and was posted to 151 Bn. the Parachute Regiment. He died aged 19 as a result of a parachuting accident and is buried in Delhi War Cemetery.
