James Sneddon was the son of James and Catherine Linton Sneddon, of Wishaw, Lanarkshire, and husband of Lily Sneddon, also of Wishaw.
He enlisted into the Seaforth Highlanders before volunteering for airborne forces whilst serving in India in 1941.
Private Sneddon completed Parachute Jumping Course 6 at the Air Landing School at Willingdon Airport New Dehli, as part of 151 Parachute Battalion.
151 Parachute Battalion later became 156 Parachute Battalion in 1942.
He served with HQ Company, 156 Parachute Battalion and took part in the Battle of Arnhem with B Company, during Op Market Garden.
Pte Sneddon died on 20 September 1944, aged 25 years old and initially had a field burial behind the Wolfheze Hotel before being laid to rest at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
