Corporal James Frederick Paul Moore

Corporal James Frederick Paul Moore was born in Leicester, the son of Joseph and Mary C Moore, of Westwell, Ashford, Kent. He began his military career as a Boy soldier in the Royal Corps of Signals. By mid-1944, he had become part of 6th Airborne Divisional Signals.

He took part in the D-Day glider-borne landings early on 6 June 1944. Although the exact circumstances are difficult to confirm, it would appear likely he was involved in the early defence supplemented by gliderborne infantry of the bridges captured by the Coup de Main force near Ranville.

Corporal Moore died on 9 June 1944, aged 19 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
