James 'Jim' Evans was called up on 20 February 1942, joining the RASC as a Driver.
After service with the 8th Army in North Africa, he volunteered to join the Airborne Forces and returned to England for training, where he was posted to 93 (Airborne) Composite Coy RASC, of 1st Airborne Division. It is believed he was at Arnhem, evaded capture and was hidden by a Dutch family near Apeldoorn.
Following this he went to Norway in May 1945 to help disarm the German forces in the region. He was a Generals driver and used a captured open top Mercedes car whilst there.
He was demobbed in November 1945.
I am grateful to Paradata for the only photo I have of my father in uniform with his company posted on this site.
