James Edward Odell was the son of James and Elizabeth Odell, of Kennington, London. He enlisted in The Queen’s Royal Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Odell successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to 11th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Odell was killed in action on 20/21 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial in the garden of a house in Hoogeweg and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 20 September 1945.
