James Corry was the son of George and Mary Corry, of Hawick, Roxburghshire. He enlisted in The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Corry successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden, Arnhem.
Sgt Corry was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 24, when he disappeared east of the work camp near Ginkel Heath and has no known grave.
