James Brennan enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment before volunteering for airborne forces, early in 1944.
Private Brennan went to RAF Ringway and undertook parachute training course 106, which ran from 6 to 16 March 1944. The instructors’ report states ‘Pte Brennan: Worked well and was good influence in section.’
He was initially posted to the No 1 Airborne Forces Holding Unit before being posted to A Company, 3rd Parachute Battalion.
Pte Brennan jumped on Operation Market Garden into Arnhem on 17 September 1944 and was one those who managed to return across the river (RAR) during the night-time evacuation of Operation Berlin.
Pte Brennan returned to The Worcestershire Regiment in October 1945.
