Signalman Jack Metheringham

Jack Metheringham was the son of Frank and Aleathea Metheringham, of Carlton, Nottinghamshire.

He enlisted into the Royal Signals and volunteered for airborne forces during World War II.

Sgmn Metheringham spent nine days on ground training at Hardwick prior to qualifying as a military parachutist on course 35, which ran at RAF Ringway from 29 October to 7 November 1942.

He served with 1st Airborne Divisional Signals and was killed in the same incident as L/Cpl William T Davies during the Italian campaign.

Sgmn Metheringham died on 20 November 1943, aged 19 years, and is now buried alongside L/Cpl Davies at Bari War Cemetery.
