Private Jack E S Missing

Jack Ernest Stephen Missing was the son of Ernest and Helen Missing; and husband of Edith Millicent Missing, of Sutton, Surrey.

He volunteered for airborne forces and attended Parachute Training Course no 87 at RAF Ringway which ran from 13 to 25 October 1943. There were 291 trainees on the course who completed over 2,000 jumps. Pte Missing was posted to the 13th Parachute Battalion on completion of his training.

He parachuted into Normandy with the Battalion as part of Operation Overlord in June 1944 and later died in fighting.

Pte Missing died on 23 August 1944, aged 32, and is now buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
