Private Jabez Pearson

22 Sep 1944

Jabez Pearson, son of Robert and Mary Pearson, of New Washington, County Durham, enlisted in The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (The West Riding) and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Pearson successfully completed Glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion the Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Pearson was killed in action on 22 September 1944, aged 28. He was originally given a field burial in front of the Tafelberg Hotel and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 3 September 1945.
