Hugh Thomas was the son of Charles and Laura Thomas, of Erwood, Brecknockshire, he enlisted in the South Wales Borderers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Thomas successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 55 from 15 to 27 March 1943. His course report stated “Performance average. Morale excellent”. He was posted to B Company, 5th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in operations in Italy, Southern France and Greece.
Cpl Thomas was killed in action on 27 December 1944, aged 27, and was given a field burial in Athens Town and was re-interred to Phaleron War Cemetery on 16 January 1945.
