Hugh Gribben, son of Charles and Annie Gribben; husband of Anna Gribben, of Irvine, Ayrshire, enlisted into the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
Private Gribben volunteered for airborne forces in August 1942 and attended parachute training course number 28 at RAF Ringway between 21 and 28 September 1942.
He was then posted to 4 Platoon, B Company, The 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion and served as line infantry in Italy and jumped into Southern France on Operation Dragoon in August 1944.
Pte Gribben went on Operation Manna in Greece. He died of wounds on 5 January 1945, aged 32 years old.
He is now buried in Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece.
