Lieutenant Horace A Dorrien-Smith

Lieutenant Horace Algernon Dorrien-Smith served with the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, attached to 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment.

Lt Dorrien-Smith attended Parachute Training Course number 1 at RAF Ringway between 3 and 15 November 1941.

On 22 April 1942 A Company dropped into New Milton on an exercise with the 11th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers.

Lt Dorrien-Smith died at Royal Victoria West Hampshire Hospital as the result of injuries accidentally sustained on this exercise due to a 69 Grenade exploding in his pocket. He is buried in St Mylor Churchyard, Mylor, Cornwall. His brother Geoffrey R Dorrien-Smith who died on Op. Market Garden is buried in Oosterbeek War Cemetery in Grave 6.A.10. However Geoffrey is commemorated on Horace's grave stone.
