Private Herbert E R Brookman

Herbert Eustace Richard Brookman was the son of Herbert George and Emmie Brookman, of Kenley, Surrey. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Brookman successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 71. The course lasted  from 5th to 17th July 1943. His course report stated “Sound and generally competent”. He was posted to 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Brookman was killed in action on 6th June 1944, aged 19, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
