Henry Charles Taylor was the son of Henry and Edith Taylor and the husband of Gladys Taylor, of Wanstead, Essex. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Staff Sergeant Taylor successfully completed his glider pilot training, and was posted to 2nd Wing, F Squadron, 16 Flight, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Taylor was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial near the Oosterbeek Hoog Station. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 13 August 1945.
