Private Harry Taylor

Harry Taylor was born in Austria and lived in Berkshire. He enlisted into the Suffolk Regiment and transferred to The Royal Artillery before volunteering for airborne forces.

Private Taylor successfully completed course 123 which ran at RAF Ringway from 3 to 17 July 1944. The instructors’ report states:'Pte Taylor: Average. Normal reactions. Quiet temperment.' He was then posted to 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion.

He took part in the 6th Airborne Division response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes, during Winter 1944-5.

Pte Taylor was killed in action on 4 January 1945, aged 25, and was buried in Bure, Tellin, (Belgium) temporary burial ground. He was later reinterred in Hotton War Cemetery on 21 May 1947.
