Private Harry E Summers

Harry Edward Summers was the son of Sidney and Lucy Summers of Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Summers successfully completed his parachute training on course number 20 at RAF Ringway on 27 July to 3 August 1942. He was posted to the Mortar Platoon, HQ Company, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in an operation in Italy and also Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Summers died of wounds in the St Elisabeth Hospital at Arnhem on 18 September 1944, aged 30. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
