Griffith Williams was the son of William and Jane Williams; husband of Margaret Williams, of Laurieston, Stirlingshire. He enlisted in the Royal Scots and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Williams successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 80 from, 30 August to 9 September 1943. His course report stated “Will make a good stick leader, all round performer”. He was posted to C Company, 12th (10th Battalion The Green Howards [Yorkshire Regiment]) Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Sgt Williams was killed in action on 12 July 1944, aged 27, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
