After training at Park Hall Lines, Oswestry, Graham Jones attended Pre-Parachute Training and Selection at Lille Barracks Aldershot. During this period an RAF Hastings crashed at Little Baldon near Abingdon, killing 41 RAF and Army personnel.
He passed P Company but due to parachute course delays his posting to Aden was cancelled and he attended outdoor adventure training in Glencoe, Scotland.
Graham remained in Aldershot for most of his service with spells in Cyprus, Germany, and Libya. Some of his colleagues from 7 RHA, including WO2 Kevin Walsh, were killed when an RAF Argosy crashed at Got el Afraq airstrip in Libya.
Most of his time was spent as a Driver/Operator. Graham's main sport was cross country running until he discovered sailing and shooting skills.
Graham left in 1969 after acceptance into the Thames Valley Police where he served for 30 years.
