Gordon Albert Rickwood was the son of William and Ada Rickwood and the husband of Patricia Rickwood. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Staff/Sergeant Rickwood successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to D Squadron, 8 Flight, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Rickwood was killed by a German sniper shortly after landing his glider on zone X, east of Telefoonweg and west of Klein Amerikaweg on 18 September 1944, aged 23, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
