Gordon Reginald Pye was the son of Ernest and Jessie Beatrice (Girdlestone) Pye; husband of Vera Doreen (Flood) Pye, married July 1939 in Norwich. He enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Private Pye successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 44 from 28 December 1942 to 8 January 1943, and was posted to HQ Company, 8th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).
Pte Pye was killed in action on 13 June 1944, aged 34, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
