Gordon Earl was the son of William and Maud Young Earl, of Workington, Cumberland, he enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Private Earl successfully completed parachute training and was posted to 225 Parachute Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Earl was killed in action on 7 August 1944, aged 20, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
