Lance Sergeant Gerald Fowler was a member of the Coldstream Guards and the 1st (Guards) Independent Parachute Company. In his 13 years in the Parachute Regiment he went to Singapore, Borneo, Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Germany and the UAE, amongst other places.
Fowler enlisted into the Coldstream guards in 1957. 3 years later, he completed the GPC and Pegasus Company hardening courses and joined the 1st Independent Parachute Company, which was to remain his home for the rest of his military career. Joe Farrell MBE offered this description of "Foxy" as he was known:
"Foxy was an absolutely outstanding exceptional man with a great sense of humour and an absolutely tremendous gregarious character; he was also an outstanding Bugle Player. He did the Guards Parachute Company Operational Tour of Borneo 1964/65. He was an exceptional Parachutist and completed the High Altitude (HALO) Low Opening Freefall course in Pau France with Mick Haley"
Fowler was discharged from the Guards in June 1973. He had served faithfully in the Army for 16 years.
Gerald Fowler died on 30 June 2023.
