Private George Proudfoot

20 Sep 1944

George Proudfoot, son of Joseph and Jeanie Proudfoot, of Dunragit, Wigtownshire, enlisted in The King’s Own Scottish Borderers and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Proudfoot successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Kabrit, Egypt, and was posted to HQ Company, 10th Battalion Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Proudfoot was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 25. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
