George 'Jock' Moodie served with 12 Platoon, C Coy, 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion.
Transferred from The Argyle and Sutherland Highlander. After jumps course and advanced battle training at Hardwick Hall, sent to 9th Bn, 6th Airborne Division. Took part in the attack on Merville battery 6th June 44, Ardennes and Operation Varsity followed by the advance to Wismar. Served in Palestine, Cyprus, Canal Zone, Jordan, Cyprus UN. PCAU twice. Married Hillary Slone, a parachute packer, in 1949. They had 5 sons, 4 joined The Parachute Regiment and 1 in Duke of Wellington Regiment. Their 2 daughters joined the RAF.
After leaving the Paras in 1966, served as a Sgt in the MOD police until retirement in 1985.
Jock Returned to Scotland in 1993 until his death in 2012. His ashes were jumped into Normandy from a Dakota by his granddaughter, and placed outside casemate 1 of Merville Battery which he helped take on D day.
He was also part of the Parachute Regiment contingent who helped film The Red Beret (1953) in the balloon and aircraft jumps, whilst he was at the PCAU.
