George Froud, husband of Vera Froud, of Headington, Oxford, enlisted into The Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Froud successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to C Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, The Border Regt. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl Froud was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 27. His remains were found beside Van Lennepweg, Oosterbeek in July 1997. He was reburied in Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 18 September 1998, together with Sgt Lawrence Howes and Sgt David Thompson.
